LONDON CAKE STYLING WORKSHOP BEHIND THE SCENES - A SUMMER'S BOUNTY
There’s the romance of being a creative/food photographer/cake stylist and then there’s the very grounding reality - how do we stay inspired, how do we keep pushing ourselves to do better and how do we avoid repeating the same tried and tested formula, making way for new forms of creative expression instead?
Though attending food styling workshops like the one Silvia and I taught late last month isn’t the answer to every creative stumbling block a budding food blogger or food photographer might come across, it IS indescribably nourishing and creatively stimulating to see the world of food through someone else’s lens. It’s even more inspiring and a heck of a lot of fun, to compose food images together with other passionate food photography students , bringing out the best in one another. I’m proud to say that Silvia and I worked hard to make all of this happen during our Summer’s Bounty cake styling and visual story telling workshop, where we celebrated all things summer, foraging, vegan, floral, delicious and pretty!
LONDON CAKE STYLING WORKSHOP TIMETABLE
Both Silvia and I wanted to give our food styling students the chance to…
truly explore the boundaries of their creativity,
receive lots of attention as the group was kept super small
learn natural, effortless looking cake styling techniques through observation and hands on practice.
leave with a solid, technical understanding of food styling and composition
experience first-hand how professional magazine and cookbook shoots are organised and executed
have the confidence to tell visual stories when working along or in a group setting
and dig deeper into Lightroom editing techniques
I am really happy with the images we jointly created on the day, a selection of which you can see in this blog post. Plus, everyone left with a big smile on their face, a camera full of shots they never thought they’d be able to take and an incredible goody bag to put all other goody bags to shame! My heart is full!
Before I thank all the generous workshop partners, without whom this workshop would never have been as special as it was, and before I tell you how you can join my next food styling workshop, I wanted to say a huge, heartfelt THANK you to our fabulous creatives who joined us from near and far. I’m over the moon I got to meet you and that Silvia and I had a chance to spend the day with you creating these shots. Rooting for all of you and wishing you so much success!
